Tyler Public Library March Programs

Youth Activities 

Art Club | March 15 at 5:30 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Geared for children in third grade and up. Children and teens who love art can join us for Art Club. The March program will feature Aluminum Foil Sharpie Doodling! 

Homeschool Libratory | March 21 at 2 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Homeschool Libratory is geared toward kids ages five through 12 years. The March class will focus on Growing Greens. 

Storytimes at the Library | Auditorium (First Floor)

Join Library staff weekly for reading, singing, activities, and playtime during storytimes!

  • Baby Storytime | Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages 0 to 18 months.
  • Toddler Storytime | Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages 18 to 36 months.
  • Preschool Storytime | Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. | Geared for ages three to six years. 

Spanish Storytime | March 10 and 24 at 10:30 a.m. | Playroom (First Floor)

Children and families can enjoy books in Spanish, songs, and crafts! 

Take-Home Kits for Kids | Available March 13 | Take-Home Kit Kiosk (First Floor)

Each month children of all ages can pick up a fun, educational craft or project to take home. Kits are available as supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. Kits are geared for the following age ranges:

  • Early Childhood: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet
  • Elementary: Anemometer
  • Tweens and Teens: DIY Paper Plants 

Makerspace Activity | All Month | Rover Cart (First Floor)

Each month, our Rover Cart features a STEAM-oriented activity for kids to do when they visit the Library. March will feature a ribbon rainbow craft. 

STEM Club with Code Ninjas | March 25 at 3 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Kids can join Code Ninja senseis to learn about Pi π, a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159! Space is limited. Sign up to attend. 

Adult Activities 

Great Decisions | March 15 and 22 at noon | Auditorium (First Floor)

March is the final month for this year's series of Great Decisions. Join to hear from around the community will visit to discuss current affairs around the world and how they affect you and your community. This program is done with the help of our Friends organization, the League of Women Voters, and the American Association of University Women. The topics are chosen by the Foreign Policy Association. Learn more about this year's topics, browse previous years and purchase a Great Decisions book to follow along on the FPA's website.

  • March 22 | War Crimes presented by Gabriela Marin 

Coffee Class | March 11 at 10:30 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Do you love coffee? Learn from Big Shot Coffee House about the art of making coffee. Space is limited. Sign up to attend.

Pi Day Competition | March 14 at 7 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

In celebration of everyone's favorite number, Pi π, join us for a pie-baking competition March 14! Bring your best pie to enter. Judges from Just Pies and Bryan's Cheesecakes will join us to find the best pie in all of Tyler based on taste, texture, and appearance. Pie categories include fruit pies, meringue pies, and best all-around pies. The pie must be made from scratch, but canned fruit may be used. We ask each baker to include a list of ingredients and have a small description of their pie and any story they may have about it

"Axed in the '80s” Murder Mystery | March 23 at 5:30 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

Mary's Murder Mysteries presents Axed in the '80s. Join us for an '80s-themed murder mystery. It's a Battle of the Bands... but will the battle leave us all whole? Costumes are highly encouraged. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is required. Register to attend.

Trivia Night | March 16 at 7:15 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

The topic for March's trivia night is Women's History in celebration of Women's History month! 

Master Gardeners | March 17 at 11:30 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

From January to May, our friends at the Smith County Master Gardeners will be sharing lectures every third Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Taylor Auditorium. Those interested in gardening, horticulture, and the like are invited to attend! Elizabeth Waldrup will present "The Physic: Gardens that Heat, Gardens that Harm" for the March program. 

Books and Bites Book Club | March 25 at 11 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

March is all about mystery! Participants can pick any mystery novel to read and discuss and are encouraged to bring a dish of any sort inspired by the book or era in which the book is set. We ask that attendees bringing food bring an ingredient list and be mindful of nut allergies. 

Chess Club | First Saturday each month at 10 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Check out the Chess Club or learn how to play at these monthly meetings. 

Club Read | Last Tuesday each month at 10:30 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

March's book discussed will be The Lioness by Chris Bohjalian. 

East Texas Genealogical Society | Second Saturday at 2 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

For all who love history and genealogy, check out the East Texas Genealogical Society. 

Open Door Writing Group | Wednesdays at 1 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

Are you a writer? The best way to hone your craft is to work with fellow scribes, and the best place to do that is at your local library! Join our Open Door Writing Group as they share their work, discuss the writing process, and offer advice. 

Quilting | Thursdays at 10 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)

For all those who love to quilt, join the quilting group.
